Hi there Teresa, Iam looking for my Great grandfather Henry Durrant , born in Norwich 23rd of August 1839, John and Mary were his parents , have info for him , 1841, 1851 census , but the missing link is the 1861 census , have looked at the index for Norwich for the 1861 census , but he was not there !, so where was our Henry ???.
If you could check the 1861 census for norfolk that would be  GREAT HELP TO ME  ! , as I am not in the best of health at the moment , so can not always get out to do bits on the family history .
After 1851 census  have him on he 1871 census here in Norwich with a wife Elizabeth and four children , at least I think they were married  ?, thats why to find him on the 1861 census might give me a clue !. Ten years on he is on the 1881 census in Norwich with my Great grandmother Elizabeth Raby , and four children all of whom have her name Raby , in 1886 , another son born , George Christmas Raby , my grandfather , still all together in 1891 , but Elizabeth Raby dies in 1892 aged 42,have info that shows Henry and George in the work house together here in Norwich in the late 1890s , can not find a death for Henry ?.
So I need to fit a few more parts of the puzzle together , would be so delighted if you can help in any way , best wishes Janet Buck .

Hi Janet

I would love to help on this one but I am afraid that 1861 census is browsable only - Norwich alone is almost an impossible search so if you are talking out of Norwich we at least need an idea of places.

I checked out St Martin at Oak where they werein 1851 to see if they were there - incase they had been mistranscribed or missed off the index - but no nothing.

I did however find this family and wonder whether he has been put under the wrong surname -   Elizabeth Raby Head - widow age 65 -- Sarah Ann  daug age 23  silk filler - Henry age 19  Bricklayer - Ann daughter  Age 15 silk filler -  Charles Turner  boarder age 25  Cordwainer  -- all norwich born and living in Dog Yard St Martin at oak

Were any other close realtives born or did they have association with places out side Norwich that might give us a clue.

If you would like the above mentioned image please let me know your email via a private message

Hi there Teresa , thank you so much for looking for me !, Iam very grateful, its going to be so hard to join the jigsaw together !, well the family you found I have them on a print out on the 1851 census that was done for me years back , and the Henry is a Raby ! on the 1851 census , they were with a William Raby , then Elizabeth , wife , then Wiliam 29, mary 27, Susan 15, Sarah Ann13, Henry 9, and Ann 3.
Think they are relateted to my Rabys !.
Back to henry Durrant , well his father was born in Gt Yarmouth , and his mother in Oxford , they married here in Norwich I think in 1824 August 24th .
Henry had a brother Robert aged 11 , John aged 8, Edmund aged 6 ,Elizabeth aged 4, and Henry himself aged 1 on the 1841 census , Elizabeth was not n the 1851 census , so might have died !.
That is all I have Iam afraid  , Henry could have been visting family or working away , just do not know how to find him ????? , my thanks and best wishes Janet  :)
