TRINGHAM in Godalming/Busbridge
« on: Friday 06 April 07 12:19 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of a photograph of a young girl taken about 1870 by Andrews Photo of Guildford. The sitters name written on the back is Edie TRINGHAM. Doing a bit of sleuthing through the census I think she may be the daughter of the Rev William TRINGHAM, Rector of Busbridge. The only Tringhams with a daughter the right age in that area. The others were in Chelsea or Herefordshire I think it was.

I can find them in 1871, 1881 and 1901, but not 1891. As far as I am aware she did not marry.

Not sure how the photo of her came to be in NZ, unless they came out here at the time, but then why a photo of her as a child.

There are TRINGHAMs in NZ but they came from Herefordshire.

Anyone able to help with this family, or confirm that there was a photographer in Guildford by that name.

Hi Ian,
As far as the photographer is concerned you could try looking for him in Historical Directories;

http://www.historicaldirectories.org/

Or contact the West Surrey Family History Group

http://www.wsfhs.org/

Found the family in 1891 but minus Edith;
RG12/562/57/13  (FRINGHAM)  Godalming
I presume you have access to the 1891 so I wont type-out the details.  I've tried every which way to find Edith in 1891 but I just can't catch her.  Maybe she was out of the country?

Possible death for William on FreeBMD;

June Q 1909 aged 76 at Chertsey (2a 55)

Jane,

Once again your suggestion (and link to the directories) on an unrelated question/family has helped my own search.

Thanks.

Jann

Hi there,

My gr-gr grandparents, John Shorter and Mary Ann Shorter, I believe were tenant farmers for Rev. Tringham.  I have a pewter cup congratulating them on their 50th wedding anniversary in 1903 from Rev. Tringham.

I've searched for the Tringham family before hoping to find a clue to my family.

Rev. William Tringham lived at Long Cross in Surrey which is close to Chertsey/Chobham area.

There is a bit of information on him here http://www.chobham.info/

I am William Tringham’s great grandson. My father was the son of Nancy Inman (nee) Tringham...I believe after Longcross, Chobham Ridges became the family home. I will see if I can find out who Edie was and get back to you.

I have some pictures of William Tringham young and older and a picture of Edith. There is perhaps a tragic tale concerning Edith but as my family history needs putting together a bit I’ll wait before divulging anymore.
