g'dads scroll
« on: Monday 09 April 07 21:49 BST (UK) »
hi all ,I thought maybe you could help me with this scroll.
its my g'dad's from the great war.
when found a while ago among some old birthday cards
it was a huge surprise because we did'nt even know it existed.
as you can see its the worse for wear, I wonder if anyone could improve
how it looks?as I would like to print out the new version
and frame it.
                       thanks for reading this.anne

Hello Anne,

If possible , could you re-scan the scroll , in a higher resoloution , 300 dpi or more. That way you will get a lot better picture back.

Hi Anne

As Jim says, it would benefit from being scanned at a higher resolution. This is only 72 dpi.

I've given it a qick spruce and enlarged it but a bigger one would be better. The letters are breaking up at this resolution so I didn't do a full tidy

Cheers

hi gadget & woodentop50,hope this is better now.
thanks for trying.makes a bit of a change from your
usual master pieces.I admire all the great work done
on this board.
                             anne
  p.s.
should have said that the handwriting on the scroll was
damaged when found. it reads.

                    4th august 1914
         private.3rd northumberland fusiliers
wounded in action at la bassee, august 1915

Glad you liked it, however I'm no expert! I'm still low down on the learning curve, so the more diversified the subjects the more I get to learn. I enjoyed this challenge!
I expect you are already aware of the definition of an "expert"  - "Ex" = past    "spert" = a drip under pressure
