Would anyone like to venture a guess on the occupation listed below after James Laing? It almost looks like squarewright which I think is a carpenter or furniture maker.

Hi Kath

According to http://www.genproxy.co.uk/old_trades_occupations.htm a Squarewright is a carpenter, specifically a furniture maker so you are right.  It looks like Squarewright to me but spelt a little oddly.
