Hi Bren

Did you know there is a photo service available at

http://www.mcb.wa.gov.au/NameSearch/photoServ.html

You will need the Application No   FB00015053 for Margaret Edith MATHEWS.        Number is available on the search facility on the same website.

Cheers

Hi Cando

Yes I saw that, but at this stage I am just trying to prove or disprove that this woman is the daughter of my grandfather's half-brother.

Sorry, I should have just asked for an MI.
Are these available on CD or fiche?

Thanks

Bren

Hi Bren

Deaths 1906-1980 are available on fiche only - no CD. [Deaths to 1921 are available on line]

I found the following birth registration - could it be your Margaret - I noticed she was 23 when she died in 1943.

MATHEWS  Margaret E     Female   JARRAHDALE     Reg No 7     Year 1920

Cheers

Hi Cando

Thanks info about deaths.
What about MIs?  Are they available anywhere?

Yes, that certainly looks like her birth.

Thanks

Bren

Hi Bren - I don't recall seeing any references.  Perhaps an email to the Western  Australian Genealogical Society
   librarian at wags.org.au    Replace the at with @

Perhaps another rootschatter who is more familiar with Western Australian records may be able to help with MI information.  Just a thought - I wonder if the Fremantle cemetery may help with info.

Cheers
cando

Edit - Bren you have a reg no now for this birth, may save a little if you wish to purchase her birth certificate.

Hi Cando

Thanks info.

I'll add that cert to the bottom of my wish list...
This is my first foray into WA - they certainly know how to charge for certificates.
Is there a transcription service over there??

Bren.

Hi Bren

Have read all the info on obtaining certs on

http://www.justice.wa.gov.au/default.aspx

Can't see an offer of a transcription service.  Cheaper to purchase a digital photo of the MI.  Let's hope a WA rootschatter will have more info.

Cheers

Hi Cando

Thanks so much for all the info.
Yes the MI photo option is tempting, but I don't know if there is even a plaque if the ashes have been scattered.

I have been googling, but unfortunately can't find any reference to commercial transcription agents.

I did notice that the cemeteries provide a "Funeral Application Form" (AUD$5.50) which provides the following information: (but not for Fremantle!!)

    *  Last address of the deceased
    * Name of the funeral director
    * Date of the funeral
    * Date of death
    * Age of deceased
    * Place of birth
    * Name of the applicant for the funeral
    * Name of any clergy officiating.

Could be useful....
Not sure if it covers cremations/scattered ashes, so have emailed them.

Will post the outcome.

Bren.
