McIlmoil / McIlmoyle
« on: Thursday 12 April 07 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have James McIlmoil (born circa 1835) who married Eliza Jane Boyle / Matthews on 26 Jun 1854 in Antrim (location unknown).
Their known children were Elizabeth, born 1856, Mary Ann, born 1857 and  David born circa 1860, all born in Antrim, also Sarah born 05 Feb 1867 in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

Eliza Jane Boyle / Matthews' (also recorded as Matthies) parents given on her death cert were James Matthews / Matthies and Mary Boyle.

Is anyone else out there researching this family? Hope to make some contact.
Regards Gill

Many thanks for this information. Can I ask, where did you find this, and also is there any other details with it such as ages, parents names or addresses?
regards Gill

Info available on Emerald Ancestors. It only gives the basics, no parents names etc. just bride & groom, date & place of marriage. To get further data a search is required. That's how they make the big bucks. The site is good for marriages only. Births, deaths, wills & census' are very limited on this site.

Thanks for that J.A.M.
I had never heard of that site, but will be using it from now on, as all the branches on my tree lead back to Ireland at some point. Hopefully I will be able to make progress on my Irish lines now.

I have a Hugh McElmoyle born about 1830 Derry married a Margaret Hodge (?) in 1849 Derry County.  Emigrated to Summit Hill, Pennsylvania in 1870's.  They show children Hugh (1860), Henry(1861), James Alexander (1863), Samuel(1865), Robert (1869), and Martha (1872) born in Ireland.  As they married in 1849 I might assume there were other children who did not emigrate with them.  I have found James Alexander, Samuel, Robert and Martha all with fitting birth dates on Irish Genealogy site in Derry Genealogy Center listings.
They attended Presbyterian Church in Summit Hill, but have not found much else.

Any connections to your McElmoyle's.

Bonnie- the marriage certificate will give residence of bride and groom at the time of the marriage, fathers names and occupations, place of marriage, names of witnesses.
If you get the actual certificate you will have a location in Co. Londonderry to start searching for the family.
The children's details on Irish Genealogy site are from birth certificates but likely come from church baptismal records. Civil registration in Ireland did not begin until 1864 (1845 for Protestant marriages).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for the information.  Back to the Family History Center to order films.  May actually begin to make some progress on this line.
