I have a copy of a copy of a baptismal certificate for my maternal grandmother, Catherine Patterson. She was baptized at the Catholic Church of St. Joseph in Belfast on 19 November 1882.
Looking on the web, I find that St. Joseph's is in the Seaman's District, but that it was closed in 2001. I wonder what has happened to the original Baptismal Register from the 1880s, and similar church records. Can anyone tell me how to find out?
Thanks.
Mike
Good Morning Mike,
There are a number of RootsChatters who live in Belfast. Believe it or not some of us have had the pleasure of meeting each other. We know that there are other Belfast members interested in Family History on this site, one called Belfast Forum and others which have a Co. Antrim board. There will be a RootsChat meet in Belfast later in the year when we hope members living in the Belfast area who missed the Meet last year will take the opportunity of joining us.
I'll start making enquiries to see if we can get an answer to your query and I'm certain some of the other Belfast members will do the same.
You may be interested to know that a number of St Joseph's parishioners have formed a committee which is fighting for the reopening of the Church and their case has been slightly strengthened by redevelopment in the area which will include more residential accommodation.
Father Des Wilson, who has been a long supporter of the campaign to save St Joseph's, celebrated Mass outside the Church on Easter Sunday.
I've got some information for you. The Public Records Office have records for St Josephs from 1872 to 1881.
I have now got all the information for you, Mike. You need to post all relevent details to ...
