1891 Census Sussex - Somerville
« on: Tuesday 30 November 04 23:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I am looking for William Somerville in the 1891 census.  He probably was living near Hastings, East Sussex and would be around 20 years old although I am not certain.

Thanks in advance

Roger

Hi Roger

There don't seem to be any William Somervilles in Sussex of any age in 1891!
In fact the nearest on is in London. Do you have any more information about him such as place of birth in case he's strayed?

Sorry :(

Angela

Especially looking for - Sealey, Rogers, Cannings, Box, Sheppard in Wiltshire; Virgin, Slade, Abbott, Saint, Harper, Silverthorn in Somerset; and Virgin, Tarr, Beer in Devon

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Hi Angela

I think he was born in Brighton but also I have now found him in 1901 with his name spelt Summerville.

Take care

Hi Roger

Ah yes - I can see the 1901 entry - rag and bone man - much more interesting than the usual Ag labs

Still no luck with 1891 - sorry  :(

I have found what could, I suppose, be William's parents just before he was born?

There's an entry for William Somerville aged 53 and his 20 yr old wife Sarah in the 1871 census record for Brighton RG10 1079 Folio 10 Page 14
William is from London St Lukes and Sarah is from Brighton. William sr (if that's who he is) is a dealer in bottled beer.

If any of this is useful, I'll send on the images

Regards

Angela
