Family Tree CD??
« on: Tuesday 17 April 07 12:25 BST (UK) »
I'm wanting to put my family all together in one tree (I have it on GR but I'd like a copy on my computer)  does anyone have any recommendations on a CD ROM package, eg Family Tree  Maker etc?

I know you can't see it all at once but it would be nice to see in its traditional format, GR's is really odd to work out sometimes  :)

Hi madpants (wonderful name!)

This is a question that regularly comes up here and here is a link to a page one of the mods is putting together about the various different packages, you might find it helpful.

Personally I recently bought Family Historian 3 which is brilliant and does all I want it to do.

Thanks for the quick reply Kerry.

FH3 looks like it's what I want, I'll have to investigate.

Hi madpants

There is a users group for FH3 online http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi which I and others have found useful and interesting.

One aspect I like particularly is the gedcom census download which allows me to 'pin' all my census returns to each person on my family tree.  That has been invaluable.

Tehre is a download of FH3 here

http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/index.htm#demo which allows you to try it first.

Thanks Kerry,

I've downloaded it but it says you import the family data from a current gedcom, I don't have one and I can't get the demo to do much at all, but since it's not a very big download I suppose it's just to show you the layout.  I've put it on my wish list on Amazon  :)
