Family Search.org - advice please
« on: Wednesday 01 December 04 09:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi

The familysearch.org site has the following details on Gainsford Gibin Walford:-

When I click on the source call number it shows the following:

I'm not clear where the actual christening details appeared as there seem to be 8 different possibilities for the source material.  I think its just me not understanding how they collate these records but any help on where I go next would be much appreciated as I'd like to find out who his parents were.

I would have thought it would be in 'item 7' as these are the records of the church in which it took place  :-\

The source call merely lists all of the records that are on that particular microfilm.
The "Messages" section of the IGI Individual record states that the record was extracted from the locality listed ie Marks Tey. So going back to the source call number you find the parish records of Marks-Tey. Ignore all the other parishes, Romford, Roothing etc!

If you order film number 0571183 at your nearest LDS Family History Centre you will find the registers of Marks-Tay (in the middle of all the other records from other parishes on that particular film).

Thanks very much.  If I get hold of the file will it normally show additional information like parentage etc or just the information that the site has logged.

A perish register entry for christening for the date you are looking at normally has the names of both parents (but not normally the mother's maiden name). But it is unusual in my experience for a controlled extract on the IGI not to show parents' names, so perhaps the parish register is deficient in this respect.

But a look at the PR is vital!
