Turner family of Edinburgh
« on: Friday 20 April 07 20:05 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for anything about Christina Johnston Turner - I got her christening 4th Dec 1861 in Edinburgh - off from Latter Day Saints website.

Her parents were John Turner and Isabella Gillies. They have other children John, James and Rebecca. They were born in Edinburgh.

I couldn't find them on 1861 and 1871.

PLease can you help? I also need help for the deaths of Christina and Rebecca. I suspected hence why I can't find them on 1871.

Thank you

Haven't found Christina yet,

I found Rebecca's death. She never married she is listed as being a retired Domestic Servant.

She died June 2nd 1950 aged 90 at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.  Usual residence 2 Huntley Street

Edinburgh.

Her parents are listed as being John Turner, Quarryman Deceased, and Isabella Turner nee Gilles Deceased.

She died of a fractured femur (8 days) Shock following operation (1 day) the death was registered by

Mary sibbald, Friend.

Will add more info if I find it.

Best wishes

Rebecca Turner, age 1, can be found in Edinburgh in the 1861 census. That should give you the family group at that time.

Christina's death, aged 1, can be found in Edinburgh in 1863.

Isabella's death can be found in Edinburgh between the censuses of 1861 and 1871.

The children can be found in the 1871 census without their parents in Liberton, Midlothian. Search for Rebeka, age 11.

John (senior) died in Edinburgh in 1881. In the 1881 census, he was a blind pauper in St Cuthbert's Poorhouse.

All of these are available on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on a pay per view basis.
