1861 census lookup request
« on: Saturday 21 April 07 21:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,
can someone find this girl. She lives in the Louth area.I'm afraid I don't know her parents name, that's what I'm hoping to find from the census.
She had the highly unusual name of:-
Hey Hannah STONES-age 6.(I have seen the Hey part spelt Iley).

Many thanks,
Trisha ;D ;D ;D

Bearing in mind that pretty well anything that we see is a transcription of something, look at the image on FreeBMD.  It is listed between Henry and Isabella (which either one would be).

To mind mind, what is written there is Iley - but you can also see how similar the names look in that style of handwriting.

Dowse    John         Spilsby    7a   1002
Kemp    Abigail         Spilsby    7a   1002
STONES    Iley Hannah        Spilsby    7a   1002

There were about 40 people with forename Iley in 1861 Lincs and 3 Hey - all seem to have been females.

Hi Geoff,
because of the location they must be relations to my HEY/ILEY.With the amount of ILEY's i'm beginning to think her 1st name was ILEY and not HEY.
I have to be honest I have never come across either 1st name before. It's a total 1st for me.
I wish I could afford to see the actual census subscriptions because I'ld love to see this name as it was actually written down by the transcriber.

I'm afraid it's not possible to attach images in this forum  ... perhaps if you go to the Lincs Forum ;)

Hi Geoff,
no, none what so ever-lol. I took your advice. ;)And after much thought and some evidence from the Parish registers as well I've come to the conclusion her 1st name was actually ILEY and not HEY .Looking at the actual census transcription when you can also compare the same letter written down elsewhere by the same transcriber also helps.
I originally got this 1st name of "Hey" from the FreeBMD marriages.Unfortually I havn't got a marriage certificate in my possession to 100% tie me in with her parents so that I could change that but without that piece of info I'm 99.9 sure I have the right girl so feel safe enough to make her the wife of Robert CHESTER on my tree.
