Fullagars in Grimsby
« on: Sunday 22 April 07 20:29 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have been told that one of my Fullagar relatives(Charles Fullagar) moved from Kent to Grimsby - probably in the early part of the 1900's.

Is anybody researching any Fullagar's from Grimsby?

There was one FULLAGER in Lincs in 1901 ...

Schoolhouse, Brattleby (just a few miles N of Lincoln)
Ellen FULLAGER (niece*) 20 Monitor in school, Kent Harrietsham?

*It clearly says "Niece" but there's no one else in the building!

I see an Edward FULLAGER married Harriet Ann CLARK in 1906 in Grimsby - she died in 1914 age 30.  Children Emily Ann (1907) and Florence Mary (1908)

Hi Geoff

Thank you for the info.

I think the Ellen is probably related to my Fullagar's somewhere along the line - part of the family do originate from Harrietsham I believe but not my direct line.  Edward is more interesting though.  I believe he is the brother of Charles.

I was told by a relative a while back that Charles moved to Grimsby and someone had paid a local researcher (in Kent) several years ago to trace his history - trouble is - that's all I know.

Thanks again for your help

Hi KPM

Had a quick look at Grimsby Library, it holds MIs and some births and marriages but the only thing I could find related to the Fullagars were these MIs

Percy Charles Fullagar died 07/03/1925 age 5
Charles Edward Fullagar died 14/10/1925 age 3
Mother and Nanna Ivy Gladys Fullagar 1903-1980
All buried Scartho Road Cemetary

not sure if these are any connection to yours but it is an unusual name so you never know

Hi Fiona and Geoff

Many thanks for this information.  I am 99% certain these are my Fullagar's.  I was told that Charles married in 1919 so it looks as if the marriage to Ivy is correct.

However I don't think there is any point in ordering the marriage certificate as I don't think Charles will have named his father.  He was actually born as Charles Spitty but his father died a few years after he was born and his mother changed his name to Fullagar.

Apart from waiting until the 1911 census is available I can't think of any other way to find out where this Charles was born - any ideas anyone?

Thanks again for your help

Hi Anne-Marie

have you managed to find Charles on the 1901 census or was he born after this?

Hi Fiona
I have never been able to find Charles in 1901 - he certainly wasn't with his mother - she was in the workhouse with her youngest child.

Charles was born in 1881 in Elmley, Sheppey, Kent.

If the Charles who married Ivy is my relative, he would have been 20 years older than her.  I did find some more children born to Charles and Ivy, the last one being born in 1937 making him about 56 when she was born.  I suppose as Ivy was so much younger this makes it possible (not that he couldn't father a child at that age - it just seems less likely)

I may have to order the marriage certificate to check the age - this will give me an idea whether or not hes mine.
