with so little detail it is difficult. But I really like the picture so had a try anyhow. If you could tempt the sender to try and resend at a higher resolution though - who knpws?

Thanks Denn. The sender is also going to mail me a printed copy. Will it help if I scan that and re-post or should it be a better scan of the original?

Hello Didy,

If possible , get the sender to scan the original at 600 d.p.i. ,
there is a lot of detail in what looks like a very interesting picture

There is...didn't spot the bloke under the tree at first.  Would be great to get a better scan, we could enlarge it then without loss of detail.

As said by the others, a better scan of the original is the ideal way to go. As for resolution 600 dpi would be good unless the original is large (6inch x 8inch or bigger), in which case you would be better off scanning at 300dpi.
