NEIL & BRIDGET
« on: Wednesday 25 April 07 00:24 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the parents of
Neil McHugh  born in ireland about 1851 and Bridget Dunleavy born in renfrewshire about 1853
The first census they appear on is the 1871 as follows
Mary Dunleavy  -   head - married-  age46-  born   Ireland
Bridget    "        -  daughter -   u/m  - 18 -  renfrewshire
James      "        -   son         -   u/m  - 17 -  renfrewshire
Mary        "        -  daughter  -          -  12 - renfrewshire
Gregory   "        -   son         -           -  10 - renfrewshire
Neil   McHugh     -  boarder   -    u/m  -  22 - Ireland
Patrick  "           -   boarder   -    u/m  -  24 - Ireland
Neil and Bridget were married in 1876 Neil's Parents Conn McQue and Mary M/s Fisher are still living at this time
Bridgets parents Gregory Dunleavy (deceased) and Mary M/S Brannan
Mary doesnt appear on the the 1881 census only
james is on that one with his own wife and child,
the 1891 census gregory and his family appear on it with
james and his family, but by the 1901 census there is only james again

I know nothing before 1876 about Conn and Mary McQue except they were both born in ireland
I hope due to some guidance from jap I have got it right this time

Hi Elaine

I have no skills at all for research in Ireland, so will be little use with finding them there (or travelling) but I have found Bridget  in 1861, so hope that adds to your knowledge

1861 No 564/2 District Greenock East County Renfrew Address 23 Stanners Street
Gregory Dunlevy head 40 Born Ireland Ship Buildg Yd labourer
Mary Dunlevy wife 34 born Ireland labourer's wife
Bridget Dunlevy daur 9
James Dunlevy son 8
Mary Dunlevy dau 3
Gregory Dunlevy son 1
All the children born Greenock

The IGI has record for 4 children born after civil registration viz
Alice 1855
Mary 1858
Gregory 1860
Patrick 1862

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

Young Alice fills a gap between James and Mary and was born in the magical year of 1855. Her birth certificate, which would be available on ScotlandsPeople should give the date and place of her parents marriage. It will also give the parents age and place of birth (would be nice if it said other than Ireland  :)  )

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

this tells you what is on the 1855 certificate

I hope this is some of what you are looking for (and the information was great to find the family  :) )

I can't find Mary Brannon or Dunleavy in 1851 at the minute, but there is a possible for Mary in 1841 living with a very large family of Branon (as transcribed) in Paisley High, Renfrew, all born Ireland.
Parents would be Heys and Mary, Heys being a shoemaker, children being
Eleanor
mary
James
Alexr
Daniel
Heys
Robt
Martheia

This may not be your family. You probably need to find a death for Mary Dunleavy nee Brannon - which should be on SP and hopefully will give a parent name.
There appears to be only one possible death in Greenoch that is suitable, but age is given about 10 years too old? Could be an error. You can search SP without payment - just can't check the result, but by changing the search you can work out approx year and age  :)

I wonder what Heys would be? Henry? Tis the only appearance of Heys in all the Scottish Census records  ;D
