Hi Sharon,

I can't see one on any census (but there is a Joseph Brentnall born ca. 1842 Buttall). Where is your Joseph last seen? Have you got any other informations about him (siblings, parents, children etc ...)?   :)

Oh I see ... we already have a thread about him:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,221076.0.html

His birth year is anyone's guess :-\

1845 according to 1881 census
1832 according to 1891
1838 according to age at death (if he's the one who dies in 1897 Nottingham)

Nottingham 1891

Joseph Brentnall head 59 notts
Sylvia Brentnall wife 48 Carlton, notts
Annie 15 dau Notts
Samuel 13 son Notts
Emily 11 dau Notts

This is the cenus detail i have for Joseph (bn 1831)and Sylvia brentnall. Perhaps this is your Sylvia? I have no surname for her. the only other cenus info is for Joseph in 1851 living at his fathers house.

Could this be your Sylvia? It would be great to get her side of the family filled in.

Hi Tenji

Its been ages since I do any Brentnall research as the whole Seston/Brentnall thing confused me lol
This is what I have so far
Joseph Brentnall (b1832) married Silvya Seston (b1843) in 1884
    Children: Joseph b1868, John b 1872, Samual 1877 Annie 1875 & Emilia 1878
Children where baptised as Brentnall Seston

Joseph (b 1868) married Selina Slack in 1893
      Children Ethel b1893, Annie b1896
Sylvia b1898 and Selina b1901 Children given name Brentnall

Confusing as to what name to serach census Brentnall or Seston?

Hi
I have found Joseph & Sylvia in 1871 in a Lodging house in Nottingham. The following is how its transcribed in Ancestry. The actual image is definately Seston.

Joseph Bretnall age 35 born Carlton
Lety Leston age 26 born Carlton
Clara Leston age 5 born Carlton
Joseph Leston age 2 born Nottingham

The interesting thing is that Joseph is shown as married whereas Lety? is shown as unmarried. Perhaps this helps explain why Joseph & Sylvia didn't marry until 1884, Joseph was already married.

Andy

I have Joseph on 1881 & 1891 Census theres a possible match for 1851  with a Joshua but unsure about that one

Andy it could well be them as 'Lety'? occupation as Hosiery? On 1881 Census she has the same occupation
