The couple with the bath-chair look rather like members of the Royal family- they are not King George and Queen Mary by any chance? :)
With regard to the "thing" in Uncle's car boot ^, He had to go out and inspect any new devices that had been dropped by the Luftwaffe over night. I think this one might be a new type of incendiary container that he's taken back for examination.
