1851 &1871 - James Johnson
« on: Tuesday 01 May 07 13:42 BST (UK) »
Benjamin Sowden  Johnson was born about 1829 in Tosside.   I have his 1861 census records with wife Annice and 6 children living in Slaidburn.

I am trying for James' census records in 1851 and possibly back to 1841.

Annice Johnson died in 1867 and later that year Benjamin Sowden Johnson married Martha Charlet (Charlotte?) Hughes in St Andrew's Church Slaidburn.

Grateful for 1871 census records for Benjamin and Martha

There are no Benjamin Johnsons listed specifically with the middle name, but maybe this is him for location - you'd really need to confirm his father by the marriage certificate though.

Hello Mary

Many thanks for all the records you have found which provide an added twist to the family tree.   I'm doing this research on behalf of a first cousin and the names in 1851, plus other records, strongly support the same ancestor (Tempest Slinger) in both her paternal and maternal lines.

I wonder if the 1871 census has any record of Benjamin Sowden Johson's second marriage to Martha Charlet (Charlotte) Hughes in 1867?   I cannnot find them in 1881, possibly they had died.?

I did look but unfortunately didn't find any trace.  If you check the death indexes without finding them perhaps you could ask for another look up and somebody will double check.
