Meath Hospital
« on: Wednesday 02 May 07 21:24 BST (UK) »
After reading the article on The Adelaide Hospital by Christopher, I am wondering if anyone would know where I could obtain information about the Meath Hospital, County Dublin Infirmary, Heytesbury St.

My ancestor was the Registrar, Meath Hospital as shown in Thom's Directory, 1850, 61 & 66.  I am most interested in locating records of him being at that hospital & any physicians who may have attended there as well.

Is there an address where I could enquire that would have these records.   Would be appreciated.

Hiya Maystan,

The Meath Hospital was founded in 1753 to care for the sick and poor of the Liberties. It became the
County Dublin Infirmary in 1774 and moved to Heytesbury St in 1822. It was moved to Tallaght in 1998.
It's now called the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Incorporating the National Children’s Hospital.

Keep your eye open for a book by P. A. Gatenby. It's called ....

"History of the Meath Hospital, Dublin" and was published by Townhouse in 1996.

Snap, Mo 8) That was in my message. I thought it looked familiar 8)

Maystan, I presume a Registrar of a Hospital is a Doctor so the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland website may assist you. Have a look at the Archives section of the Library and you'll see that they have complete records of Registers of Fellows and Members of the College dating from 1692. It might be worth while sending an email to the College Library Archivist.

Chris.
