1922 Electoral Rolls QLD - - CD
« on: Saturday 05 May 07 05:38 BST (UK) »
Would SKS look up on the above CD for residents residing at:

583 Main Street, Maree, Oxley, Brisbane.

Is this area in Kangaroo Point  ???

Any advice or help appreciated.

Oxley is west of Brisbane - about 1/2 way between Brisbane and Ipswich - definitely not Kangaroo Point which is just to the SE of the city

Hi Trish,

I have a will from the 1930's which states the address as 583 Kangaroo Point, Brisbane in the state of QLD.

I also have an old letter with address as 583 Main street, Maree, Oxley.

So I was wondering if they were refering to the same place as the person's will is related to the person in the letter.

I was also told that the house at 583 Main Street was very large and was made into 4 flates. This is why I would like to know who else was living at this address.

Hello Members,

With a number as large as 583 Main Street, it is more than likely to be in a populous area, like Kangaroo Point, than Oxley which would have been just a 'whistle stop' in 1922.

Also, Kangaroo Point was a 'flats area' with large homes,
in 1922.

Do you agree? .....

in Brisbane

Maybe, it appears  to be a mistake [typo].

I would think main Street would definitely be Kangaroo Point - Main Street today runs from the Gabba (for cricket fans  ;D ) through Kangaroo Point to the river. Perhaps Oxley was the name of the house? the occupants?

Presumably someone left the street name of the Will

Another piece for your contemplation ......

"OXLEY" could well have been the Federal or State Electorate or Division thereof where the person was enrolled.

OXLEY the founding father of the site for Brisbane still has a Federal Electorate named after him.
