Franklin Family to Victoria before 1920
« on: Friday 03 December 04 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
I have recently discovered that my Grt Grandfathers sister & family emigrated to Australia. They were Albert Franklin born Bucks, Julia nee Beament born Herts, Bertha daughter, & 2 sons, Albert Ernest & Arthur William.

I have been very lucky & found Albert Franklin, Julia & Bertha sailed on the ship Borda in August 1920. I also found Albert Ernest's WW1 & WW2 service records so I am assuming that the 2 boys emigrated before their parents & sister.

On Albert Ernest's service record for WW2 it states he enlisted at Royal Park, Vic & his locality on enlistment was Surrey Hills, Vic.

Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out any more about this family & perhaps discovering if there are any descendants.

Thanks in advance

Hi Maddie

Bertha Constance NEWMAN died 1979 aged: 82 Place: Park Reg no: 781
Albert Ernest FRANKLIN died 1959 aged: 66 Place: Heid Reg no: 10783

Eric William FRANKLIN born 1920 Place: Ringwood Reg no. 35084

I was unable to find a marriage between Albert and Gwen in my indexes, so they may have married before coming to Victoria.

Certificates can be ordered, paid for and viewed online.

Thank you so much for that help Genni. That is brilliant. At least I now know there are descendents to look for.

I did wonder if Albert Ernest  married before leaving UK. Hopefully I can find that info here.

Once again, thank you.

Hi Maddie

Have you been to the national archives www.naa.gov.au - You can get full copies of war records. There are a number of records for Albert Ernest - one of which (if yours) is a court martial. (One of my relatives had same - turns out he fell asleep on sentry duty & a prisoner escaped!) You can pay for copies of the records - OR - apply via phone/email to have the images placed on line (Free). Can take a couple of months if the records haven't been "examined".

Trish

PS I just noticed the Court Marshall is for Ernest Albert - so probably not yours
Next of kin for Albert Ernest is listed as Mrs GS in WW1 and Gwen in WWII.

Hi Trish

Thank you for that info, I have visited naa.gov.au & did find records for Albert Ernest, yes he is mine.

Phew, you had me worried there with the court martial bit, thought I had missed something. I will check it out just in case the names are the wrong way round.

Thanks again for your time.
