Grandad's medal for courageous conduct
« on: Monday 07 May 07 12:05 BST (UK) »
Hi
Not sure if this should go here or in Durham.
Attached is a photo of a medal my Grandad Joseph received for courageous conduct in helping the police in Chilton in 1920. The family have been trying to find out why he got it ( what happened on that date in 1920?)and when the medal was presented. We've tried approaching the police but archives don't seem to go back that far. I've sent the info to a guy at the Northern Echo in the hopes that he may have a lead but thought thatwith all of the expertise on this site someone may just have a clue.

What a lovely medal Kate -- you must be very proud.  Have you thought of looking in the local newspapers of the time?
