Jean,
I have James Francis Gordon (Shirrefs) as the younger brother of my descendant.
A family member gave me a handwritten tree which has James Francis Gordon Shirrefs (14th of Craig) marrying Barbara Shirrefs Smith (possibly also a cousin as there was a lot of it). There is one child of this marriage on the tree - Gordon Shirrefs (1862-1916) who marries Elizabeth Cree (1870-1934), but the tree extends no further beyond this.

There is a pdf file on the web about the Gordons and the title at http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/adsdata/PSAS_2002/pdf/vol_064/64_096_111.pdf

regards,
an Australian Shirrefs

Hi Brian John,

Do you have any further information of John Gordon Lumsden Shirrefs, I think he had 3 sons to Elizabeth Cree.

He married Elsie Spring in 1897 and had James & Ian, although we have a birth certificate for James born in Aberdeen 1898, we have no other record at all, he may have died as an infant, we are unsure.

We also have John Gordon Lumsden Shirrefs as an officer in the 16th lancers, again we cannot find anything to confirm this, his surname quite possibly could be Gordon during his time with the military.

Can you help with any of this.

rgds,
Jean Gordon

My grandfather was William Gordon Lumsden Shirrefs. He was a son of John Gordon Lumsden Shirrefs and Elizabeth Taylor Cree. His older brother was John Francis Gordon Lumsden Shirrefs. John and Elizabeth divorced on 24 March 1896. John died on 6 April 1919 and Elizabeth on 12 Jan 1934. I have documents showing this information that I will try to upload.

Quote
Divorced Elizabeth
Actually divorced by Elizabeth.

Plenty of newspaper reports about the divorce in 1896. His address was given as Knowsie, Lonmay. She petitioned on grounds of adultery, and was granted custody of the two children (only two? There were apparently three with her in 1921)

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
