Palmer and Buswell of Leicestershire
« on: Wednesday 09 May 07 21:00 BST (UK) »
I recently received my Great grandmother Florence Mary Palmer  brith certificate B: 14 Dec 1885 Leices and her parents were named as Henry William Palmer C1861 and Mary Buswell Abt. 1860 I was told that my great great grandmother (mary Buswell) was from Ireland.

I can find a census with a MAry Rockingham with the same birthdate living with her children and her birth place is Ireland, but I can't find a birth for her. However I can find a Mary Buswell in the Fosse Road Leicestershire Orphanage. I would love some help with this mystery

Well, I can't promise this is her (you'd need the marriage certificate to confirm) but it's the best match I see:

Jane, dau, 15, ditto
David, son, 13, Shoe Maker
Naomi, dau, 11, school
John, son, 9, school

Buswell of Leicestershire/Northamptonshire

Hi have more information but still can't seem to tie things up
Mary Buswell who married Henry Palmer Was actually born Clipston Northants and her mother was named as Betsy Buswell of Clipston. No father named.
I have looked and all i can see is a Betsy (Elizabeth, Betsey!) born 1825. She's around for 1851,1881 & 1891 (later two living with ther daughter Mary A) but can't find her in the the 1841 with her family or 1986/71 (obviousily in the 1861 she would have Mary by now. Mary is found in the 1871 census in a leicestershire orphanage.

Can any one help me track the misisng census links. I think Betsy's parents where Jesse and Rebecca?

Hi Lisasteve,

Now I'm puzzled. Would Mary Buswell be enumerated twice in 1891, in different names, with different birth places, and different a marital status?  ??? Unless the 1891 census I found initially wasn't her?  ???

Anyway Betsy & Mary are at RG10/3224 100 32 in 1871 and RG9/2252 40 20 in 1861  :)
