Kay - glassmakers Tynemouth
« on: Friday 11 May 07 12:00 BST (UK) »
Have the marriage of my 3 x gt grandparents JOHN KAY and MARGARET WATSON 1818 St. John's Grainger St. Newcastle on Tyne.
They had 3 children. John b.1818, Joseph b.1820/21 and Elizabeth b. 1823.
I have John and Joseph in the 1841 Scottish census at High St., Duddingston, S.Leith.
They are both glass blowers b. England. With Joseph is his wife, Ann nee Bremner. They are my 2xgt grandparents. There are also 6 other Kays all b. Midlothian [Edinburgh]
I have no idea who they are!
I have Joseph, Ann and 4 children in 1851 census in Back Woodward St. M/c.
I would like to discover what happened to John and Margaret and their dau. Elizabeth.
I have been unable to find them in the 1841 English or Scottish censuses. Anyone help?
There are some marriages for Elizabeth Kay at Tynemouth in 1846 when she would have been about 23.
I'm wondering if I should write for her marriage cert. mentioning who her father was, as a check.
Any suggestions?

I have received a letter from North Shields, none of the marriages were correct.
Any ideas for finding deaths of Elizabeth Kay and Margaret Kay nee Watson after 1823?

kooky,

Where were the three children of John/Margaret born/baptised ?

I noticed for the two lads plus 6 others,in Scotland C1841, the surname was indexed as Kery ?

St John's, Newcastle marriage was 11 April 1818. Do you have full details of this church marriage... e.g. whether John and Margaret were "natives of this parish " ?

Kooky,

I have no connection with Northumberland Dixons ( my father's gang came to Northumberland, from Cumberland, as late as 1930s).

Are you mentioning Woodhorn as a parish or as the site of today's Northumberland County Record Office ?

The John/Margaret marriage (without details) is on www.genuki.org.uk

As you probably realise, Elizabeth, like her siblings, could have moved away from her birth area, and died/married almost anywhere.

Will let ypu know if I spot candidates for her and her parents ( and additional siblings ! )

Thankyou! I meant the new Northumberland Record Office at Woodhorn. Excellent facilities and the staff are very helpful.
