I would be greatful for any info on the family of William Fell 1835-1899. I have some info from the 1881 census but cannot trace anything prior. He was born and died in Yorkshire. Thanks Geoff

Hi Geoff,

There are several candidates ... Could you post the 1881 details or reference?

Hi Tanja, The 1881 no.is 4861/38 page 8. However the name has been mistaken sometimes as Tell. I have William' death cert and he died on 26th May 1899 in North Ormesby, Yorks. I am trying to find his wedding date by a round about way. Geoff

:-\  :-\ The reference doesn't seem to work.

OK, just tell me his birthplace and where he lives, hope we'll get there  ;)

I wonder if Geoff is referring to the chap enumerated as William TELL, 45 b Howden, living in Ormesby

Correct ref is RG11/4861 folio 38 p16

William's wife in 1881 is Mary A., 40, b Dersingham, Norfolk.  She's helpfully consistent, being 50 and still b Dersingham in 1891.

It looks as though she's been married before, as both in 1881 and 1891 there are children of the family called Jacobs:

1881
Rob. Jacobs Fell Son U 20 b. Normanby Yorks Engine driver

1891
Sarah E Jacobs Daur S 21 b. Eston Yorks

The first child of the couple (from both census returns) seems to be George A. Fell b abt 1873 Normanby so we might well be looking for a Fell-Jacobs marriage in the early 1870s.

Thanks Anna, that's easier  ;D

In 1881, looking at the image, Rob, Edward, Mary and Sarah aren't called Fell at all, they are simply Jacobs.

A possible in 1861

William Fell, head, 25, Ag Lab, b. Howden

1871 is looking tricky.

Here's a birth for Sarah, anyway:

Sarah Ellen JACOBS b Sep 1869 Guisbro'

and a possible sister

Mary Ann JACOBS b Jun 1867 Guisbro'
