Hi Lizzie
I carn't see anything about a copperman, but as he was a carpenter I wonder if ir was mispelt, and should have been a cooper, a maker or repairer of barrels etc

I too have COPPERMAN as my grandfather's (Esiah Price) occupation on a 1891 census in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire...also his brother Thomas's occupation on the same census.   Where I'm wondering, did they work at this occupation in Llanelli and what did they do as COPPERMEN?   They had previously lived in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire before moving to Llanelli...I'm thinking that they moved there for employment??? Can someone kindly enlighten me please?!   Anni Edwards.

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3090926/3090930/36/copperman

See column 1.

If you then click on "New Search" it returns the Search screen for this site. Search for copperman - plenty of results. I think it depended on the type of industry in which a copperman is employed. For example there's an item about a copperman in a Brewery being scalded to death.

If you search, check the Cardiff Times, 2 Mar 1867
