Grindly Brooke?
« on: Tuesday 15 May 07 04:03 BST (UK) »
My x3 great grandmother was apparently born in Grindly Brooke, Chesire, England around 1835.
Does anyone know where this is?
Or any information about an Emma Lloyd born February 15 1835, married to William Hughes?

Thanks  :)

Hi Wynne-12

Grindley Brook is most famous for a set of staircase locks on the Llangollen Canal which lies at a junction with the A41 trunk road.

It is a busy spot for tourists these days, with a shop & pub & lots of people walking on the towpath, on canal boats & on the long-distance walks in the area.

The village is named after James Grindley, the engineer, I think.  The area would have been economically very important in the 1830s with the canal & the trunk road.

If you go on the cheshire census request board and  ask for the 1841 & 51 census lookup you might find the family on them.
State "Emma Lloyd born February 15 1835,Cheshire"
