Hi there

This is just a suggestion, search the old newspapers for the area for a report of the incident.  I have found full inquest reports printed in the Merthyr Express newspaper and Western Mail newspaper for a cycling accident in Bargoed and for colliery accidents in the area.

When in Bargoed next, call in the Library and speak to Steve or Rose, I'm sure both would put you on the right track

Regards

Roy
