If anyone can help I am trying to trace a baptism/birth record for Georgiana Cook born cira 1830 in Yaxley, Huntingdonshire (possibly in area called Whittlesey, but not sure). Her father stated on marriage cert is Thomas Cook. Any details would be great, thank you  :) Gary

Unfortunately Yaxley baptisms have not been extracted onto the IGI or BVRI, nor is a transcription available from Hunts FHS. The good news is that they have been filmed by the LDS so you can order and view them at your nearest Family History Centre of the LDS.

I can see her in 1851 as a visitor in Chelsea age 22 unmarried, annuitant born Yazely Hunts, but cannot see her in 1841 when I was hoping to find her with her family.

There's no burial of a Thomas Cook in Yaxley, so possibly the family moved away from Hunts

David

Thank you David, that is helpful to know and looks like I will have a trip to make. I have just been sent an email this morning by another family tree member and it would appear that she was born in yaxley, huntingdonshire but infact christened in whittlesey, cambridgeshire. Would this then mean I need to post under cambridgeshire to find out baptism records?

Thanks Gary

Hi Gary

Check out Cambs FHS website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

There's a baptism index 1801-37. Just put in Cook. Whittlesey.

You'll find exactly what you're looking for!

In 1841 there's a family in Whittlesey
HO107/82/2 folio 16A
Barrs Lane, Whittlesey
Thomas Cook 49 Brewer born in Cambs
Mary Cook 39 b in Cambs
Alice Cook 17 b in Cambs
George Cook 11 Not b in Cambs (age in the male column)
Sarah Cook 9 Not b in Cambs
Jeremiah Cook 7 Twin Not b in Cambs
Harriett Cook 7 Twin Not b in Cambs
Maria Cook 2 b in Cambs

I suspect that something got lost in the enumeration process and that George is actually Georgiana. Alice is also in the Baptism Index. There's also a burial index where you can cross match a couple of the children.

Regards

David

The proof that this is the right family comes in 1851
HO107/1765 folio 49B
Barrs Lane, Whittlesey
Thomas Cook head marr 58 Brewer (Hackney) b Whittlesey
Mary Cook wife 51 b Whittlesey
Jeremiah Cook son 17 Servant b Yaxley Hunts
Harriett Cook dau 17 Servant b Yaxley Hunts
Maria Cook grand dau 11 b Whittlesey

You'll never prove that George is Georgiana in 1841 but it looks more than probable!
