t Dominics Priory Church St Pancras
« on: Wednesday 16 May 07 13:01 BST (UK) »
Kia ora
Greetings from New Zealand!
My great gran came to NZ in 1878 and i have traced her family backwards & am now trying to find family AFTER the 1901 census.

I have a Marriage Cert which shows JOHN MILLER DAY married EDITH MULLINS Sept 1903 at ST DOMINICS PRIORY CHURCH  St Pancras.

I have absolutely no idea if this couple had children & therefore no Christian names to buy birth certs.  A first port of call would be the Baptism Register of St Dominics 1903-1910 to see if the couple baptised any children.

The bride was 34 although I believe should have been 36.  This is a Roman Catholic Church of which I have no previous experience!

Could anyone tell me where the Baptism Register might be held? Might there be transcriptions anywhere?
Any help/advice gratefully received! :)
Thanks
Marlene

THANK you for replying! I am still trying to track this family so any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

John Miller Day married Edith Mullins 1903 at St Dominics  Priory. (have cert!)
I have the 1911 census which says they had children as follows;

Arthur George Miller Day Dec Q 1904 Kennington Lambeth 1d/373
John Robert Day Jun Q 1906 Bedford  3b/325
Lawrence Stanley Day  born 24 November 1907 3b/339 died 19 October 1987 Bromley Kent.
Edward D Day Dec Q 1912 Lambeth 1d/480

According to the 1911 there was one other child who died. In 1911 the family lived at 33 Station Rd Camberwell.

I know that on 26 September 1926 John Miller Day (Grocery clerk) was living at 192 Southend Lane Catford when he was the Informant at his stepfather in law's death. ( have the cert.)
Presumably his wife lived there too at the time.

I have no further information !
Thus am seeking deaths of :
John Miller Day born Dec Q 1876 Islington.
Edith (Mullins)  Day  born Sept Q 1867 Birmingham
Baptisms/Marriages/Deaths of any of the above children
Any Electoral Roll info ?
Any Directory info?

Better still - any rellies out there? ??? ;D

I would be very grateful indeed for any help/ideas/assistance!
Marlene

Hi

FreeBMD coverage charts for the GRO index

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/progress.shtml

coverage diminishes in the 1930s.

Otherwise Ancestry has the GRO marriage and birth indexes and says it will shortly have indexed the death index (otherwise at present a search through the GRO quarterly indexes on Ancestry of Findmypast)

You need addreses to search electoral rolls

http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelprestype/offpubs/electreg/electoralregisters.pdf

Catford would be in Lewisham so contact Lewisham history and archives centre

http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/LeisureAndCulture/LocalHistoryAndHeritage/LocalHistoryAndArchivesCentre/

They will also hold directories.

Rootschat is a very public forum - Google indexes the pages within hours so it is not Rootschat policy to publish details of living people or potentially living people. Please use the Personal Message (PM) system for exchanging personal data.

I would check websites like GenesReunited (where family trees are not directly open to internet searches) to see whether there are other descendants tracing this family.

Thank you. I have written to  Lewisham twice without the courtesy of a reply!
Until I find Edith & John' s deaths I have no address after 1911 except the one I gave below.

Given the birthdates of the parents & their children I don't think there is much risk of them being alive in 2009! Just think how many questions they might be able answer ;D ::) for me!
Cheers
Dale

Hi

No they wouldn't be, but to help find information on them without at present an easily searchable death index means Rootschatters often supply information on marriages and details of birth registrations from those marriages of children that very well could still be alive hence the warning to other posters to send any information of this sort by pm.

Have you emailed Lewisham Archives and asked for further information about their research service and charges?

Always a tricky problem - I have asked  for PMs before and some rootschatters were very cross because they couldn't see the answers nor see where  or how the "conversation" was developing.

One has to rely on the common sense of participants  ::)

I asked Lewisham Archives to be advised of services and charges when I wrote, as is my usual custom.
Thanks
