Trying to find how a James Dunstan, who left Cornwall sometime after 1861 & married an Emily Johns in Melbourne 2 Sept 1868, arrived in Australia. His DOB app 1845, could have a brother William with him. Any help appreciated, Christine

Hi Jenn & Christine

I suggested that Christine post here as perhaps James arrived via SA or another state.

After James married Emily in Melbourne they then came to NZ in 1869. I was able to trace Emily's arrival 2 days before they were married in 1868 but there is no record that I could find at the Victoria Records Office of how James got there & when

Hi there, yes I know how James & his wife Emily got to NZ, but have no idea how or when he arrived in Australia. He married Emily 2 days after she arrived in Melbourne. They came to NZ in 1869.
His parents names are Francis & Jane Dunstan. Some census show it as Dunstone.
His brother Williams DOB approx 1840 .
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Christine

Have you checked the crew list for the ship that Emily arrived on?

No, I wasn't aware there could be a seperate list for crew. Emily came out on White Star, arr Melbourne 31/8/1868, left from Liverpool 8.6.1868.
Thanks Christine
