Hall Family in New Zealand

Hi,

I have just found the following from a new contact on Genes Reunited:

Frank and Jack sent to Australia 1883 following rabbit poaching at Edgerston.  They both travelled on to South Island New Zealand.  Frank started a Carter's business and married.  How do I go about finding anything about them?

Frank is Francis HALL, born 17 March 1862 in Edgerston (could be recorded as Jedburgh), Roxburghshire, Scotland.

Jack is his younger brother, John HALL, born 2 July 1869 in Edgerston.

Their parents are John HALL and Margaret DICKSON.

I haven't done any research in NZ, so have no idea where to start looking.

re; to where to srart looking in NZ, if your family went to the South Island, then  start looking  at Christ  Church, in the South Island,  you can get onto a message board  for there,  like you have on this one  and ask for help

'Google' Archives New Zealand and do a simple search

There is a Francis Hall of the correct birth year buried in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. John aged 83 buried April 4, 1945. In the plot next to him lies a Mary Hall buried june 15 1929.

Sorry I was very rude and didn't reply yesterday. 

Thanks for all the great suggestions.  Think I might have to look at ordering the death certificate of the Francis Hall who died in 1945.  It sounds very promising with the age fitting in.

I was in Timaru just a few weeks ago as well, but didn't know anything about this branch of the family then (isn't it always the way!!).

Will keep searching.
