Henry Tabor birth

I have notes compiled by a deceased Aunt regarding birth of my granduncle Henry Tabor.
Henry Tabor born 28th December 1869 in Hong Kong.
Henry's father Charles and  wife Emily plus two other children were en route from South Australia  to Japan to take up a position of master at the Imperial college in Osaka.
On contacting the Registrar in Hong Kong I was told there was no record of such a birth.
Has anyone a clue as to where I can verify this event.

Have you tried the consular birth index at www.findmypast.com (this lists births to British citizens which were registered with consular authorities around the world)?

Alf, having read your message again I realise that the family may not have been British citizens - in which case my previous post will be a red herring

I really do not know my great grandfather's status.
South Australia in 1869 was a separate colony and Australia as such did not exist.
Great grandfather was from Wiltshire yeoman stock and his wife was born in West London.
they arrived in South Australia 1857 -1862.
I suspect they would be british citizens.?.

Yes, from what you say it sounds likely.  Probably worth your checking those consular births after all, though unfortunately registration was not compulsory overseas so it's entirely possible that the birth you seek will not appear.
