1891 Census - Dadds- Leytonstone
« on: Sunday 05 December 04 21:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Can anybody help. Have Marriage Cert of Henry John Dadds marrying Emily Jones 5/4/1890 in Leytonstone.
Their first son, my Grandfather born in Buttevant Cork 1/11/1892.
On Marraige Certificate Henry John was a Labourer, when grandfather born Henry John was in Essex Regiment.
I hope he was still living in Leytonstone when 1891 census taken and someone can find him and Emily for me.
Living in hope

Terry

Hi Terry,
If and when you get an answer try posting in the Essex section under Essex lookup requests for any more Essex info. We have a LOT of dedicated Essex resources there.  :D

What was Emily's father/mothers name ? she could have gone to mum's in 1891? while Henry was away from home in the Army!

I gather Henry (Henry's are sometimes called Harry's) was in the Boer War in 1901! thats why he is missing from the census at 34 Marshfield Street, Poplar.
Was Emily born at Pancras, Mar qtr, 1868, vol 1b, page 75 ? if so, she would have actually been 33 in the 1901 not 32 as quoted, this being quite irrelevant, I just thought I would mention it.

Hi Bryant,

Thanks for your post which intrigues me.
Firstly information I know of. Emily's maiden name was Jones and her parents were William Joseph a Sailor and I think her mother was Elizabeth. This is all I know of her through the marraige certificate.
Where she was in 1891 is a mystery. Between 5/4/1890 and 1/11/1892 Henry John Dadds joined the Essex Regiment. When I don't know, but in April 1891 they were posted to Cork and Emily went with him. January 1891 the Essex Regiment were in Devonport but I don't know whether Henry John had enlisted by then. I hope somebody can find them on the 1891 census.
Now for the intrigue. I guessed Henry John could have been in the Boer War which is why I couldn't find in 1901  census but you seemed to have some information. Do you know he was in Boer War ? Have you found a Emily Dadds living at 34 Marshfield Street Poplar, is there a son Harold about 9. Grace about 6, Other children ? If you have it certainly isn't irrelevant, it would be gold dust!!!
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your tip but the reason I posted here is last time I posted on Essex Board I got "told off". not knowing whether the info I needed could be given from essex look up or London look up I posted on both. I was then told this was naughty and my request from the Essex Board was sent here.
As there was doubt in my mind again whether this was an Essex or London query I felt the safest would be to post here.
Any help Essex people can give me would be fabulous.

Dear Casalguidi,

Many thanks for your help. It's not the first time I knowand i have now tracked down my Grandfather in 1901 census. Looks pretty certain GGF Henry John was away somewhere, probably Boer War.

Best Regards

Hi Terry

I have looked for them in 1891 also but without success.  That's not to say that they're not there, just that I couldn't find them.

Could they have already been in Ireland (or enroute perhaps) the night of 5/6 April 1891?

Good luck

Casalguidi

Hi Casalguidi,

If the census in 1891 was taken in April they probably would have been. Do you know if Irish Barracks were in 1891 census ?.
