Hi,

Could you please give some further information on who you are looking for and the approximate years we are talking about?

There are a few PR  entries for the name Springett but the years could be way out to who you are looking for.

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

As Frances has already said if you can give more information about your Springett's over it might help. For instance I have some copies of the Great Eastern Railway staff magazine for the period of 1911-1917 and there are two mentions of Springett's in there that may interest you. Does the following fit in with who you are looking for, Edward George Springett and his son Richard Chamber Springett.

i am afraid i have nothing, apart from my grandmother's father had a farm near colchester called THE PRETTYGATE FARM.  my g/mothers name was edith stringett and an unconfirmend tale is that she was born in colchester. she was 8 in the 1901 census, but also the word is she which i cant find was born in lexden which i cant find on the map.i have a wedding cert of an edith mary springett married in 1910.
if she was the edith springett who was 8 on the 1901 census, well. ray

Called Coopers Farm in 1665, Prettygate Farm was demolished in the late 20th centry. Housing was built on land once part of the farm in the 1950's and there is now an area to the north of Shrub End in Colchester known as Prettygate.

There are Springetts' just over the border into Suffolk, along the villages of the Stour Valley.
Four people looking for this name in Suffolk on www.suffolk-surnames-list.co.uk might be worth contacting them.
I live in south Suffolk and have a Colchester post code  ;)

SM ...
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Hi,

I am sorry I do not have any records for Lexden that time period.

You say that you have a marriage certificate for a Edith Mary Springett, if you are sure this person is correct free BMD has her birth as 1892.
Sept Qtr Vol 4a Page 596 Colchester.

There are at least three Ediths listed in 1892 in Lexden or Colchester. To avoid going along the wrong path you should start with what you are certain of and purchase certificates to ensure you are not following another family.

Census entries will help you when you know more details.

Best of Luck,

Frances :)

Springett is a long standing family name in Rowhedge, which is close to Colchester.
But more importantly for you are the long established Springett family who have lived in Shrub End Road for many years. I am quite sure that there would be a connection to your Springett.
