Scotter Conyers.

If you look at FreeBMD for Scarborough you will see that there are quite a few Conyers.

Hi Fizzy

Thanks for the reply.

The marriage was in 1866 in Clarborough, Notts. and Scotter was Mary Debnam's father.

Mary was a widow and I was trying to find out her maiden name then
hopefully her birth details but she doesn't seem to appear on IGI with
the name of Conyers :-(

I can't find any Scotters either but found a place called Scotter in Lincoln!

Will keep looking!

Thanks again

Sally

Scotter was used quite a lot as a middle name I noticed when I did a search, so perhaps he had a name before Scotter.

Was Mary married to Isaac Debnam when she was Mrs Debnam, because, if so, she married with a name other than Conyers, if you look at free BMD. So either she married him as a widow too or she and her father shared separate surnames.

Also, if  you have the Debnam marriage cert maybe that will have Scotter on with a different first name and will tell us if he was dead or alive at the time of that marriage.

Like Scots may be called "Jock" perhaps Scotter was called scotter because he came from Scotter in Lincs rather than it being his baptised Christian name. My father was edwin John but everybody called him Jack.

Hi Fizzy

To be honest I don't know anything about the Denham family apart from a Mary Denham was a widow when she married Vincent Fletcher in 1866.

It is the Fletcher family I am tracing and ordered this marriage certificate but so far have not been able to link Vincent to my Fletcher tree even though I have several Fletcher's from the Clarborough area of Nottingham.

The marriage certificate didn't give their ages only of Full age and as they had both been married before I was trying ways to find out both of their ages!

I did wonder whether Scotter was a middle name or even a Nick name - makes it a bit harder in tracking him down  ???

Thanks very much for your help, it's much appreciated.

Hi again Fizzy

I think you maybe onto something....

I had a look at the census with Issac & Mary and he is 39yrs older than Mary so I decided to look into her birth.

The 1871 census I had for my Vincent & Mary Fletcher shows Mary born in Scotter but the Mary I had as Vincents wife was born in Clarborough!

I think I dismissed the Vincent & Mary Debnam marriage due to Vincent's fathers profession but I will look at all details I have and see if this is the right one!

Thanks again
