Cause of death
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 13:32 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know what 'Bronchiectasis' is?  Obviously is it chest related but I've never heard of this particular complaint?

Also.  Where would I find records of a persons place of burial?

Bronchiectasis = Dilatation of the airways. Usually results from pneumonia in childhood

Many thanks for that.  The chap was 33 but it was my understanding that he had contracted a tropical disease at some time, so it does seem to fit in.  The other cause of death was exhaustion.

Tuscany

It depends on when they died but if it was post 1850s (ish) it's most likely to be in the local cemetery rather than a churchyard; contact the cemetery department of the relevant local authority (unless it was London where the situation was rather more complicated). Although if they had family links elsewhere it could be that they were buried there rather than the place where they died.

If it was London then the burial was almost certainly some distance from where the death occured, possible even 25-30 miles away.

Good luck

Colin

Many thanks Colin.  This gentleman died in 1912 at home and is buried locally, I imagine in the churchyard because I don't think the cemetery was opened until some years later.  In this case would it be the church records?

Hi Gig

Many thanks.  I don't know that the groundsman would know too much because the churchyard is no longer used for burials.  I was quite appalled when I visited it to see that part of it had been built on and some of the graves were less than 100 years old, as in the case of my great grandparents.

Also the new hall which has been built on the land has a small access and the graves were being walked all over.  I also couldn't find the old gravestones which had been removed.  I've contacted the local genealogy group in the hope that they can help with contacts.

I am disgusted with the way some burial grounds are treated, after all, but for those who have gone before we wouldn't be doing this.
