Fallowfield, Manchester- need local knowledge- COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 31 May 07 13:58 BST (UK) »
Am trying to trace missing branch of family and believe they lived at or near Fallowfield.
Don't want to post any names as some of them might (I really hope) be alive.
Have been through pages of births-marriages-deaths index and the registration district is Bucklow, except for a few in Manchester.
However, just found a 1991 death for Norah K. (Cake) Wildgoose under Trafford. Is that near Fallowfield?
Can anyone suggest how I try looking for names in that area, which are fairly unusual, without an address? Or could someone look up the names in the local phone book for me?
Any other suggestions?

You might also check out if there are any of the names on the burial list at some of Manchester's cemetery's.

Migky- thanks for the sites. Unfortunately I don't have an address so 192 isn't much use- just found some marriages & births in Bucklow & Manchester area 1930s-1970s. The cemetery website mentions other cemeteries will be available soon so will keep checking that again.

Trafford is the next borough to Manchester to the west, so someone from Fallowfield wouldn't have moved far. Also there is the possibility they were in Trafford General Hospital (previously known as Park Hospital, Davyhulme) - this wouldn't be the most local hospital for Fallowfield though.

Bucklow registration district covered parts of the current Trafford, Manchester and Macclesfield districts, so again is in the local area. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/bucklow.html

There are 16 entries in the 2006/7 Manchester South telephone book under Wildgoose - if you want a list I'll PM them. There's probably more under Manchester Central, though...

Thanks Dan, welcome to Rootschat. You can't send personal messages until you make a few posts (anti-spam measure) but will send you a pm in a few minutes to see if we might be talking about same family.
