1851/1861 Lookup please - Faversham - Edwards

Hi,

I'm looking for information regarding Henry Edwards who lived in the village of Hernhill (Reg District Faversham, Sub District Boughton), and whose occupation was probably Farm Labourer. Unfortunately I have no other details, so would be extremely grateful for whatever information anyone might be able to offer.

I can see no Edwards in Hernhill in 1861.

Have found a possible entry for Henry on the 1851 census:
ref HO107 1626a folio 47: Staple Street, Hernhill,
Henry Edwards head mar age 23 ag L born Boughton
Mary A do wife mar age 22 born Goodnestone
George do son age 8 months born Graveney

Here is the same family on the 1861 census:
ref RG9/525 folio 46 address something like Peticoat Hill, Hernhill (very unclear)
Henry Edwards head mar age 34 ag lab born Dunkirk
Mary A do wife mar age 33 born Goodnestone
George do son age 10 scholar born Graveney
Charles do son age 8 born Hernhill
Jane do dau age 3 born Hernhill
Emma do dau age 1 born Hernhill

Well that gives you a couple of places of birth to try for Henry, rather than the NK that we all hate to see that was on the 1871 census.

Hi Carol,

Many thanks to you for taking the trouble to look up this information for me! 

I managed to check out the parish registers, and found Henry was born in Dunkirk (Kent), but as they didn't have a church until 1846, he was baptized in nearby Boughton.

I haven't yet had a chance to check the census returns myself, so your kindness in sending this data has helped me enormously. I now know whereabouts they lived, and may well be able to trace where Henry worked at these times, plus info regarding which of their children died in infancy.
