Former Mayor of Helsby???
« on: Monday 06 December 04 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I have in my family tree a Harry Jackson born Abt.1888 in Runcorn,Cheshire,He was my G.Grandmothers younger brother.

This Harry Jackson married and moved to Helsby,Cheshire and had a farm called The Beeches, and apparently at some time in his life was the Mayor of Helsby!

Does any one have any information about him????????

Thanks

Kerrie

Hi Kerrie i have been trying to find the address of the Town Hall you need for your information ,but i can't find it.
I found the library though so if you contact them they will give you the address. Usualy all the mayor's of the town are listed in the hall.  helsby.library [-- at --]cheshire.gov.uk
it would be interesting to know if you find him,or not ;)

Hi

The original query is from nearly 6 years ago but just in case anyone is interested.

As far as I know the Local Government that covered Helsby from 1894 to 1974 was the Runcorn Rural District, and that authority would have had a Chairman and not a Mayor.  He could have been the Chairman at some stage, or a local councillor, but Helsby wouldn't have had a Mayor.

Yes,Andy, the role concerned was indeed Chairman of Runcorn Rural District Council..The term Mayor is a comparatively  new role..
