This couple had lots more children than are in the census

Christopher Kindred Beaney, born 16 March 1828, baptised 19 April 1828 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Laidler's Pit, Mason.

Edward Beaney bapt 20 July 1823 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Biddick, Mason

Elizabeth Beaney bapt 24 July 1825 d/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Mill Pit, Mason

Joseph Beany born May 1827 bapt 22 July 1831 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Penshaw Staiths, Mason

William Beaney born 7 March 1830 bapt 23 Dec 1832 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Laidler's Pit, Mason

Martha Beaney bapt 23 Dec 1832 d/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Laidler's Pit, Mason

George Beaney bapt 12 Nov 1835 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Penshaw Staiths, Mason

Robert Beaney born 19 March 1837, bapt 14 April 1839 s/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Penshaw Staiths, Mason

Sarah Beaney born 12 Dec 1838 bapt 14 April 1839 d/o John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw, Penshaw Staiths, Mason

Marriage in Penshaw  John Beaney and Bridget Ramshaw 18 Dec 1822.

Burial in Penshaw:  John Beaney, age 67, Penhsaw Staiths, 14 April 1839.  I am surprised it did not say on the parish record on the last two's baptism that he was deceased.  So two baptisms and one burial in one day.

I could not find Bridget Ramshaw in the Newburn baptisms.

Wendy,

Sorry I gave you so much information.  I thought you might have appreciated having Robert Beaney's actual birthdate since all you indicated was "around 1836" and it would not be available under the civil system.

I'm compiling information on the Beaney families of Northumberland and Durham and trying to link them together. My 3 x great-grandfather, Thomas Beaney, was baptized at Washington on 22 May 1808 (parents Wilson Beaney and Margaret Duffield/Duffell) and married Deborah Beard at Houghton le Spring on 29 Oct 1829. They moved to Northumberland in the 1840s and virtually all the Beaneys in Northumberland on later censuses are descended from Thomas and his five sons. There was another branch of the Durham Beaneys, headed by John and Sarah Beaney, in Longbenton and Heaton in the censuses from 1841 t0 1861 but their descendants moved back to Durham.

I think that the John Beaney, Mason, who married Bridget Ramshaw at Penshaw in 1822 was the same John beaney who married Jo(h)anna Robinson in Sunderland on 26 Feb 1804. They had four children:

Barbara Beaney     bapt 8 Sept 1805, Sunderland
Jane Beaney          bapt 16 Nov 1806, Houghton le Spring
John Beaney          bapt  29 Oct 1815,    "
Jo(h)anna Beaney  bapt 29 Oct 1815,     "

I have quite a lot of information on these four plus the children of the second marriage to Bridget. Apart from the children mentioned by Janis, the 1841 census records a daughter, Maria, aged 4 months. Bridget is living with a pitman, Robert Kirtley, and the Thomas Beeney aged 6 who appears as her son in 1851 is clearly not John's, as Janis's Penshaw burial information confirms! In fact, he was registered as Thomas Kirtley ( Sept qtr 1844 Chester le Street  24  7) and was married to Ann Briggs as Thomas Kirtley Beaney (June qtr 1868 Houghton le Spring  10a  514).  He reverted to the surname Kirtley in later censuses.

Hello.....

All this talk of Bean(e)y's. I wonder if mine are related..... My Great x 4 Grandfather is John Beany born abt 1815 in Newbottle according to the census. He married Ann who was born in Sedgefield.
They had 6 children
Mary Beaney 1844
Elizabeth Beany 1849 (my Great x 3 Grandmother)
Joanna Beany 1851
Barbara Ann Beany 1853
Sarah Jane Beany 1855
William John P Beany 1857

I also have some other info on some of their descendants. Does this cross with any information anyone else has?

Claire,

I have a copy of the marriage certificate of John Benie and Anne Barisford who were married in Pittington on 21st March 1840.  John's father was John Benie, mason, and Anne's was John Barisford,
papermaker. I'm pretty sure that this is the John Beaney who was baptized on 29th Oct 1815 at Houghton le Spring, son of John Beaney and Joanna Robinson. John senior appears to have been the same John Beaney, stonemason,  who married Bridget Ramshaw in 1822 and died in 1839, aged 67. John junior died aged 46 and was buried at Holy Trinity, Usworth, on 31 August 1862.
