Could someone date this please? I'm wondering if it was taken on the occasion of their marriage in 1879.

A clean-up would be appreciated if anyone cares to have a go.

I think it could certainly be 1879...the lady's dress (and what a dress!) has that upholstered look of the 70's. By 1880 the style started becoming sleeker with a row of buttons down the front. The hair would be about right for 1879 as well. Just my 2 cents' worth.

Wow! . . . Thank you. A brilliant clean-up. And the colour version really transforms it.

Yes, it sure is a dress for a special occasion, like a wedding. It was a 2nd marriage for both of them, and I'm beginning to suspect she was the source of the family 'wealth'. He was a shipwright, and my mother still has a collection of his woodworking tools, and a couple of notebooks. That somehow makes me feel closer to him than some of the other ancestors.
