Turville and Ibstone?
« on: Saturday 16 June 07 14:19 BST (UK) »
I know this is probably a silly question but where is Turville and Ibstone?  Up until 1891 they were listed as Buckinghamshire.  Then in 1901 it was listed on the census as Oxfordshire.  But looking on multimap.co.uk it suggests Berkshire.

Help as this has me completely fudged!
Hannah - Isle of Man, Kensington.  Cousins - Northamptonshire, Kensington.  Poulsum - Monmouthshire.  Carpenter - Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire.  Turner - Berkshire.  Vincent - Wiltshire.  Beachus - Wales

Both are definitely Buckinghamshire.  Turville = Vicar of Dibley country!

Turville, I would agree is Bucks.
Ibstone parish is now Bucks but used to be half Bucks and half Oxfordshire - the county boundary used to run through Ibstone Manor House!!

'Under the provisions of the "Local Government (England & Wales) Act, 1888" (51 & 52Vict c. 41), the parish of Stockenchurch, and of Ibstone, were transfered from Oxfordshire to Buckinghamshire.

PS On a TV related theme - Ibstone has the windmill from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
PPS Ibstone Manor House was on the market a few years ago - a mere £13.5 million!!
