GRO Army Chaplains Indices 1760-1880
« on: Tuesday 19 June 07 03:38 BST (UK) »
Help! Does anyone have access to these records or any other birth, marriage or death records for the military during this period? (particularly 1796-1820)

I am looking for information with regard to:
John HOLLINWORTH/HOLLINGWORTH/HOLLINGSWORTH
He served in the 10th Foot 1796-1803 and the 51st Foot 1803-1819 and is known to have been in Egypt, at Corruna, Waterloo and later in India.

I am desperate to discover if he married, had children or at what age he died.  All I know is that he was still alive in 1848 (aged about 68) when he claimed his General Service Medal.  I have been unable to find him in the 1841 or 1851 census and I am short on ideas.  I have been unable to find anything in Civil BMD records.

Thank you.
Nick

Have you tried
http://www.findmypast.com/
the Army Chaplain Records are on there but it is a pay site although they offer a pay as you go service for the pages you look at.
I found my army relatives on it in Jallunder, & Jhansi whilst serving with the army in the 1800s.
If you can narrow the dates you are searching down then it will obviously cost less

Dear Nick

Have found him on findmypast - there's a listing for him in the 51st Foot as a sergeant entitled to a clasp for Corunna.

Do you know where he was born? There are lots of entries for John Hollingsworth in the censuses but it would help to narrow it down.

Best wishes
