PRI[T]CHARD Look-Up Request 1841 Census
« on: Tuesday 19 June 07 13:25 BST (UK) »
My PRI[T]CHARD family should be in Grosmont Parish in 1841.

I also have a William PRI[T]CHARD born Cwmyoy c 1790 who married Elizabeth [?].  She gave Abbey Dore in Herefordshire as her birthplace in the 1851 Census.  They are both buried at Grosmont.  There is an 1818 marriage of a William PRITCHARD and an Elizabeth COOKE which could be theirs.

Four of their children, according to the I.G.I., are:

- Margaret at Lanvihangle Crucorney c 1818.  She married William BROWN in 1842 in Lanvihangel Crucorney and may have been working there in 1841 aged about 23.

- Sarah at Grosmont on 4th Feb 1827.  She married Lewis WATKINS.  Aged about 14 in 1841.  Both were living with her father in 1855.

- Elizabeth at Grosmont on 14th Nov 1824.  She is not mentioned in her father's will so may have died but would be about 17 in 1841.

- Mary at Grosmont on 25th Nov 1820.  She married John CHRISTOPHER and was in Nantygloe in 1855 but in 1841 would have been 20 at census time.

William was a bailiff and labourer and gave "The Birches" as an address on some of his daughters' Christenings records.

Many thanks davisa.  That is a great help.

It's not her birth date that's wonky - it's my maths.  I think I originally had her birth year as 1827and forgot to change her age.  You're right - in 1841 she would have been about 21 and in '61 about 41.  Where did you find her in '61?  Was she with her husband and family?

Hope I'm not pressing my luck but did you have any luck with Margaret PRITCHARD in Lanvihangle Crucorney in 1841?

Much appreciated

Regards

Bernard

Again - many thanks.

This fills a hole in my database though I am still looking for Margaret PRI[T]CHARD's future husband, William BROWN[E] who would be about 28 in 1841.  Seeing they married in 1842 at Llanvihangel Crucorney, he could be in the area in '41.

Is it too much to ask for yet another look-up?  I know I'm being greedy.

I very much appreciate all you have done for me.

Regards

Bernard

Thanks for telling me what I wanted to hear - in more ways than one. ;)

That's him in Grosmont with his mother, Mary.

John WALBY is most likely her grandson and his nephew.

I have the '61 entry where William is a farmer at Crossway - one of his several occupations.  He was an innkeeper at Cwmyoy, Llangattock Lingoed and Grosmont as well as a shoemaker [cordwainer].

I'm glad I'm not greedy.   ;D

Many thanks for everything.

Regards

Bernard
