Janet Bogle

Can anyone help me track down Janet Bogle born July 1857 in Biggar?   She is the illegitimate daughter of my 3 x gt grandmother Janet Bogle or Wilson.  I've found her on the 1861 census living with her mother but then she vanishes ..... and I can't find a death for her either.

Come to think of it .... I haven't got the 1871, 1881 or 1891 census records for her mother either.  Is it possible that they were left out of the census?  and why can't I find a death ?

Can't easily see Janet's marriage to George in Scotland, but this is the family in 1881:

George Nelson, 27, Farm Labourer (Ag),    b.  Raskelf, York, England     
Janet Nelson, b. Biggar
Esther Eliza Nelson, 4, b. Edinburgh

Census place: Barkstone Ash, York, England

If you have a look at the children's birth certs., this should include date and place of George and Janet's marriage (and confirm Janet's maiden name as Wilson which I haven't been able to do so far).

So Janet Jnr's name was changed to Wilson ......which would explain why my Bogle search was coming up blank, and mother Janet has knocked 10 years off her age as well (naughty)

I'll get a look at Esther's birth certificate as soon as I have topped up my credits for SP.

Janet Jnr. birth entry in 1857 in Biggar was down as Wilson so this is how she was registered from birth. Janet Snr. seems to have gone by Wilson in all the censuses that I have seen from 1871.

I've lost Janet Jnr in 1901 (can't easily see a death for her either in Scotland with names Wilson/Nelson). Mother Janet looks to be living with son William Wilson in 1901. Everyone showing as born in Edinburgh apart from Janet and son William:

Janet and George may have moved down to England by 1901 (could explain why no deaths showing on SP). Janet showing as widow in Harrogate Yorkshire:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ok this is going to make things confusing lol.

There is another mother daughter pair also in Biggar also both called Janet Wilson.

My Janet jnr was definately recorded as Bogle as I have her birth certificate (father unknown).  Having said that ...... the 1871 census that you found is definately the right family so her name was changed to Wilson at some point.

I had a look at Esther's birth certificate (the joys of a partner who doesn't mind me playing with his credit card) and to make things even more confusing her mother is listed as STUART Wilson :s although Janet Snr did also have a daughter called Stewart so still a possible connection.
