Hi and welcome to rootschat!

Re your request - it might be a good idea just to fill us in with a bit more detail of what info you already have - do you have the family on any censuses? Have you found the births in the indexes , what part of teh country did they hang out in, for example
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Probable Marriage Registration

1891 Newcastle U Lyme AMJ quarter 6b 113 (or 118)

William Henry Jones
Agnes Lightfoot

This marriage at Madeley All Saints is confirmed on

http://www.bmsgh.org/staffsbmd/index.html

On FreeBMD the two names do not match up because Agnes is referenced as 6b 118 and William as 6b 113. Both original entries are difficult to read but I would think that 6b 113 is the correct one.

Subject to confirming with the marriage certificate (as above) which will give his father’s name and occupation, I would think that this is his family...

1871

Oldbury RG10/2977 Folio 57 Page 18

William Jones Head M 29 Police Constable Worcester Leigh
Mary do Wife M 27 Worcester Leigh
William H do Son U 1 Worcester Langley

Although you can search the 1881 census free of charge here

http://www.familysearch.org/

or here

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/

this is the entry to complete this part of the story...

1881

Oldbury RG11/2841 Folio 84 Page 50

William Jones Head M 39 Court Bailiff Worcester Leigh
Mary do Wife M 37 Grocer Worcester Leigh
Henry William do Son 11 Scholar Worcester Oldbury
Maud E Amy do Daur 9 Scholar Worcester Oldbury
Archer Edward do Son 3 Worcester Oldbury
Dora Mary do Daur 1mo Worcester Oldbury
Hannah Blinese Serv U 15 Servant General Worcester Oldbury

Whyley Street, Oldbury (Grocer’s Shop)

I hope that helps. Even though the names of the children suggest quite strongly that this is the correct family, you really need to confirm it with the marriage certificate.

Best wishes

DS ;)

Hello again.

There are numerous marriages between people called William Jones and Mary or Mary Ann between 1861 and 1870 in Worcestershire and Staffordshire so it is almost impossible to decide which might be the correct one. Even looking at the earlier census returns to find a Mary or Mary Ann born in Leigh in 1844 who matches up with a William Jones on a marriage registration has not proved successful.

Therefore, in order to ascertain what William Henry’s mother’s maiden name was you are probably going to need to see the birth certificate of one of the children. There is more than one possible birth registration in 1870 for William Henry Jones, so one of the other children such as....

1872 West Bromwich JFM quarter 6b 754

Maud Elizabeth A Jones

or (perhaps preferably)

1881 West Bromwich JFM quarter 6b 787

Dora Mary M Jones

.....would be a safer bet.

I am fairly confident about the marriage of William Henry to Agnes Lightfoot since there is a lady on earlier census returns of that name who fits perfectly and there were not that many marriages in the right area and right timescale between people called William Henry Jones and Agnes. However, yet again, to be absolutely certain, you would need to see one of the birth certificates of their children unless there is some inside family knowledge available which would confirm any of it for you.
