« on: Sunday 24 June 07 20:34 BST (UK) »
hi i have a 2xgreat grandfather who was born in pembrokeshire in 1817 .He is listed as a stonemason on the census. Is there any way of finding what sort of stonemason he was. ie buildings, church, ect.  Thanks for any help. :)

Hi there,

Very often you can follow clues from the Census to find out Occupations.

For example, my Great Grandfather was described as a 'StoneMason' on my Grandfather's Wedding Cert. However, from looking at Census Entries & Addresses, I was able to ascertain that he was actually a Slate Quarrier...& it was then down to guesswork to find the Quarry involved.

Best of Luck,
Romilly.
