1851/61 Lookup for John Stanley - farmer
« on: Monday 25 June 07 09:03 BST (UK) »
Hello. I am looking for a John Stanley - who was a farmer in 1857- in the 1861 England census. His daughter Ann(e) got married 23/2/1857 in Colchester to Charles Frederick Watts. She was 22 at the time so she was born Mar 1834-Feb 1835 sometime. I don't have her mother's name or that of any siblings.  She emigrated in 1859, so to summarise:
John Stanley living with a daughter Ann in 1851 census, probably a farmer, then in 1861, daughter Ann should have left.
Daughter married Charles and they lived in Middlesex (Edmonton dist.) for two years until they emigrated to South Africa. Since marriage was in Colchester, I assume John Stanley lived there (?)

Never assume where families live !!! A lot of the children would have been in service in another part of the country and this may be why Ann was in Colchester.

At the moment the only Ann of the right age with fther John I can find in 1851 is in Nbld and he is a slater.

Let me know if you are interested.

I assume this is the one in Alnwick? I have that image from before, but I don't know how to determine whether she's the one that married Charles Watts 6 years later.
